NORTH CHARLESTON— Police arrested a man in connection with a pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 2.

Officers responded to the intersection of Leeds Avenue and Dorchester Road around 1 a.m. after a report of a pedestrian hit by a car.

The victim, a 63-year-old man, was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in critical condition, according to the incident report.

According to the initial investigation, the pedestrian contributed to the accident.

Police used surveillance cameras to get the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle before locating and arresting 27-year-old Mario Gene Williams on a charge of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury, the incident report said.

Williams is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. His bond was set at $40,000 at an Aug. 2 bond hearing.
