Xfinity TV’s pricing is the best compared to other cable TV providers
Xfinity is pretty on par compared to the other top cable TV providers. But let us highlight why Xfinity is the number one cable TV provider—it’s more widely available than any other cable company. And now, Xfinity has the best value as of the end of 2022.
Xfinity’s entry-level package is $50 per month for 125 channels. How does it stack up against its competitors?
How much are entry-level cable TV packages?

What we’re not excited about the Popular TV plan
- Sports channels are fewer and farther between
- You’ll have to upgrade to get the finest movie channels
You’ll only get nine sports channels
In a TV world where sports are King, Xfinity isn’t supplying. Nine sports channels just don’t usually cut it. Not only do you need your ESPN, but you likely need your NFL Network and SEC or Big Ten Network.
Yes, it’s great that these starter packages have PAC-12 Network, Tennis Channel, and Golf Channel, but if we want to watch sports on TV, we want to watch it all.
But hey, if you’re not a sports fiend and like to check in on your favorite teams here and there, these sports channels have got you covered!
With the Popular TV plan, you’ll get the following sports channels:
- AT&T SportsNet
- ESPN, ESPN2
- FOX Sports (FS1), FS2
- Golf Channel
- Local Sports
- PAC-12 Network
- Tennis Channel
These entry-level packages won’t have the popular movie channels
If you consider yourself a movie buff, you might want to upgrade to Xfinity's Ultimate TV package.
You’ll get the FX Movie Channel, Paramount Pictures, and IFC channels in the Ultimate TV package.
But if you feel like you get enough movie choices through your Netflix or Hulu subscriptions, you can do without them.
Xfinity’s Ultimate TV plan
This plan is best for those who want the most sports and movie channels.
How much is Xfinity's Ultimate TV plan?
Plan | Price | TV channel count | Details |
Ultimate TV | $68.5/mo.* | 185+ | View Plans |
---|
* No term contract. Broadcast TV fee and regional sports fee extra; price subj to change. Taxes and equipment not included.
What do we like about the Ultimate TV plan?
- This plan has 22 sports channels instead of nine
- You’ll get more channels, like the Cooking Channel, Disney Jr., and FX Movie Channel
You’ll get a whopping 13 more sports channels
The best part about Xfinity's Ultimate TV plan is that you get the major sports networks straight to your TV. These are the plans you need if you’re a Los Angeles Rams, Lakers, and Dodgers fan, for example.
With the Ultimate TV plan, you’ll get the following sports channels:
- ACC Network (ACCN)
- AT&T SportsNet
- CBS Sports Network
- ESPN, ESPN2
- ESPNews
- ESPNU
- FS1, FS2
- Golf Channel
- Local Sports
- MLB Network
- NBA TV
- NFL Network
- NHL Network
- PAC-12 Network
- Outdoor Channel
- SEC Network
- Sportsman Channel
- Tennis Channel
- TUDN
- Zona Fútbol
Enjoy the one-of-a-kind entertainment and movie channels
When you upgrade to Xfinity’s second-tier plan, you’ll get more movie channels and kids, entertainment, and lifestyle channels you can’t usually get with an entry-level package.
So, if you love Carnival Eats, K’s Exotic Animal ER, or The Riveras, you’ll want a more robust plan.
With the Ultimate TV plan, you’ll get the following channels:
- BabyFirst
- Cooking Channel
- Discovery Family
- Disney Jr.
- Disney XD
- DIY Network
- Flix
- FX Movie Channel
- Hallmark Drama
- IFC
- Nick Jr.
- Nicktoons
- Paramount Pictures
- Sundance TV
- Universo
- Vice
What don’t we like about the Utlimate TV plan?
- Xfinity has quite a few fees, so budget accordingly
Because of the fees, you’ll be spending about $120 for the Ultimate TV plan
Every cable and satellite TV provider has fees, but Xfinity's broadcast and regional sports fees can be tough to swallow. Ugh.
Your monthly total fees will vary on how many TV boxes you need, how many DVR storage hours you'll need, and your location (for the broadcast and regional sports fees).
How much do Xfinity’s fees cost?
Fee | Monthly price |
Each TV box | $7.50/mo. |
---|---|
DVR fee | $0-$20.00/mo. |
Broadcast fee | Up to $24.95/mo. |
Regional sports fee | Up to $19.15/mo. |
So, if you need a TV box ($7.50/month), an additional TV box for the TV room downstairs ($7.50/month), DVR storage ($10/month), news channels ($24/month), and sports channels ($19/month) … you’ll be spending close to $70 per month in fees.
Although we touch on how expensive it can get, no other cable TV provider gives you 185+ channels at a consistent price of $69 per month. Well, besides Verizon Fios TV and Optimum TV, but unfortunately, their availability is a bit scarce.
Recap: Which Xfinity TV package is best?
We’ll come outright and say the Ultimate TV package will give you the most for your money.
The Popular TV plan gives you 125 popular channels (with a few Music Choice channels) that everyone in the family will absolutely enjoy. But if you want to get cable solely for sports, we’re sorry to say you won’t get your NFL Network, MLB Network, or NBA TV channels with this package.
If you upgrade to Ultimate TV, you will get these major sports channels and 60+ more entertainment, movie, and kids channels (for only $19 more per month).
